extention agent called me to ask if we could use our club sheep for a demo given by Derrick in a neighboring county. I hestitated,
because I have a dear friend who shears for me, but since he's swamped this year, I brought our Hog Island sheep (Scotchtown)
for him to shear. Derrick did an outstanding job with them, they can be challenging at times, fat and kickers, but he handled
them firmly and patiently, and he had the fleeces off in good time, and the fleeces were top knotch jobs. The sheep came out
if it just fine, and he was kind enough to allow me time to trim feet and he sawed off one horn tip theat was out of whack.
He has every tool and accomodation needed for the job, very professional set up, great with the kids and dedicated to giving
110% to making sure the job is well done and everyone gets what they came for. Gives me great pride to know he's 4H alumni,
as a leader who can only hope my kids show this much enthusiasm for anything they choose to do one day. Derrick, I passed
your name on to the ladies in Williamsburg and alerted my sheepdog friends who are ALWAYS in need of a shearer. Hope they'll
call you, it was certainlyt a pleasure to meet you, and thanks for the good work. |
